Once upon a time,
Zhuangzi dreamed he was a butterfly—
a fluttering, carefree butterfly,
drifting about with no awareness of being Zhuangzi.
He was simply the butterfly,
happy and at ease,
following the breeze.

Then he woke up.
And there he was, solidly Zhuangzi again.
But he began to wonder…

“Was I Zhuangzi dreaming I was a butterfly,
or am I now a butterfly dreaming I am Zhuangzi?”
